Savages MC have been running a charity pub-golf ride out in the Test Valley for the last few years, with each year getting more riders taking part. Money was being raised for The Abel Foundation – a charity for the sufferers and families of Mitochondrial Disease.
The aim of the day is quite simple, ride to a pre designated pub as a pack, choose from a list of “interesting” drink combination and depending on your choice you score points accordingly. The first few pubs (whilst riding) are all non-alcoholic combinations, varying from simple OJ and Lemonade to Tea and Tomato juice (not as bad as it sounds!)
Over 60 riders took part this year, and we were all a bit surprised to have a band following us around all of the pubs !
OGRI’s “team” this year consisted of Steve, Mark, Jon (well for some of the run and then we lost him!), Bob and myself – having won the Drinking Trophy last year, Mark admirably opted out for 2016 to give others a chance to win the trophy ! Despite the threat of thunderstorms, we spent the entire run taking off more and more layers and the sun came out and warmed us up nicely.
This years run took us from Andover to The George at Wallop, then onto the White Hart @ Stockbridge, Malt House Inn Romsey, The Bear and Ragged Staff in Romsey(ish), The Crown at Kingsbourne, then back to Andover to do the proper drinking at The Globe, The John Russell Fox, the Mills and then back to The Rockhouse.
Whilst scoffing the free BBQ, Daz conducted the raffle and Auction for a wide and varied selection of prizes and once done, over £1400 was raised, which was going to be matched by one of the local banks pound for pound up to £1000 – so a great fund raising effort !
A big thank you to Savages MC for organising a brilliant day out !
Cheers
